The Freedom Wrapper
We have done it. We have figured out a way to make the Android application creation cycle mobile. This means a multitude of really cool things. For one, you don't need a good computer to make a working Android application. You can make it from your web browser by piggy-backing off of GitHub's own continuous integration workflow system.
Ok, it sounded like I said a bunch of words right there. What that means: you can fork our Freedom Wrapper repository (located here), follow our guide, and make your freedom wrapper on-the-go from a web browser. You can literally (Parks and Rec emphasis here) make an Android app on your phone if you wanted to.
This has a lot of implications for both the security community and for people of low-income backgrounds. The security community could benefit from an isolated application that is permissionless with absolutely no trackers. Low income families may have access to computers but they are usually not the kinds of computers you need to make an application successfully. Android Studio isn't a total memory and processing hog but its pretty close.
We can't take all the credit for this discovery. GitHub and the GitHub community has an excellent system in place. We put on our creative hats to figure out how to give our community participants value. What are you waiting for? Go check it out and have some fun - on us🚀.
